Just wanted to thank everyone for filling out those backerkit surveys so quickly! For those of you who haven't filled the survey, we sent out a reminder to your email in case you forgot. If you haven't seen your survey in your inbox, try checking your spam or trash. If you still don't see it, contact us and we'll do our best to help out!
Sample Update
So our manufacturer sent us a picture of one of the samples they're working on. They estimated that they should be able to finish all samples by the end of the week and once we approve the samples, they'll go onto production which can take around 3 weeks to finish.

That's all for now. We're nearing the end of our sampling and beginning to move forward to production in the manufacturing process so that's super exciting! Thank you to all who supported us through this delay and we'll be sure to make it all worth it ;)

We just sent out the BackerKit Surveys!
How it works
We will send an email with a special link to BackerKit surveys . It is important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information for fulfilling your rewards.
You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just click on the survey link, fill it out, and you’re all good to go! You will be able to answer questions about your rewards preferences, provide shipping information, and pledge for more “add-ons” if you'd like. You do not have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!
If you decide later that you want to edit your survey response, you can go back to your survey and change it any time before we lock down the surveys for processing.
If you need to review your information or pledge status, you will be able to recover your survey here.

Sampling

I guess it's summer now?
So it's been pretty hot this week in San Diego! Coming from San Francisco, we still haven't adjusted to the weather here. Can't take the heat. Hopefully all of you are having some pleasant weather!
Sampling Update
So I spoke with our new manufacturer and they updated me that they are currently sourcing the leather material for the straps and are awaiting the delivery. They estimated that they should be able to finish the sampling this week. Keeping our fingers crossed!
Our next steps: We'll have to wait patiently until we receive the samples in order to check them for quality and functionality. After approving the final samples, we'll jump straight into production as soon as possible in order to speed up the process to get these Unclips into your well-deserved hands!
Touch of Modern Confusion
So many of you noticed that the Unclip was for sale up on Touch of Modern for an even cheaper price than the Kickstarter reward.
We'd like to clear up some confusion on this. We were in talks with Touch of Modern since February before the whole manufacturing situation went down. After that hit us in the face, we told the team at Touch of Modern that we would hold off on the sale until we received our inventory and you backers receive your rewards first. Through some form of miscommunication, they decided to launch the sale yesterday. This decision was not authorized by us and we woke up as confused as some of you who saw it on Touch of Modern.
As for the pricing, we typically give wholesale rates to retailers expecting that they would be selling the product for the same retail price as our website (which is higher than the Kickstarter reward pricing). However, Touch of Modern decided to price it lower.
Solution
We called their team immediately after finding out yesterday and cleared everything up with them. We decided to cancel the sale and postpone it until our backers receive their Unclips first. And as for the pricing, I requested that they price it higher than the Kickstarter rewards since you all were the reason why we got funded!
So don't fret all. If you go check Touch of Modern out, you'll quickly find out that our sale indeed is cancelled. Hope that clarifies everything with you all! Thanks to the backers who pointed it out and allowed us to solve everything.

Surveys

Hey all! I just wanted to let you all know that we've been working on crafting the survey over the weekend and should have them ready to go by the end of this weekend. Look out for a BackerKit email that includes the survey. You have the option of adding more Unclips or straps you didn't have the chance to include within your rewards.
Regarding our progress with manufacturing, we are still undergoing the sampling process and should have a sample ready for us to look at within a week or so. Now it's just a patient waiting game and I'm anxiously awaiting these samples to come in.

Production Update and Estimation

Hope you all had a great spring break, for those of you that still have spring breaks!
Manufacturing
During that last week of March, our manufacturer told us some bad news. After providing us with final samples, and reassuring us that they could complete the production order in time for April with a couple delays, she informed me that they could not finish the production order for us.
I have provided some pictures of our conversation:
After an extensive time of back-and-forth, we realized that there was nothing we could do to ensure a finished production order with this specific manufacturer. Their excuse was that they didn't have enough skilled workers to assemble such a complex keychain design. This causes a large delay in having the keychains shipped to us. We did not feel comfortable providing an update to all you backers without some good news. We knew that the only option we had was to source another manufacturer and make sure that they could handle the production. At the end of the day, the products need to be delivered to all of our supporters. This was the main and only priority of ours.
With that said,
We immediately went to work and scoured all of our connections to other manufacturers for a reliable company who can ensure a quality production order.
After days of stressful searching, we have some good news
We connected with a larger and more reliable manufacturer that typically handles larger orders to help us out. In our current situation, they are preparing the mold as well as making samples for us to check out. We wouldn't want to jump straight into production without making sure the samples are great quality. Now we understand that we have to ensure the finished production order with contracts. So we'll be treating this as a learning experience.
The Result
This unfortunately is a long process. We tried to cut down as much time as possible without sacrificing our relationships and the quality of our product and reached an agreement of having the production order to be done around June. This was the earliest the larger current manufacturer could provide for us since we had a small run compared to their other clients.
That being said, we believe our backers have the best patience in the world. We thank you for your everlasting support and patience with us and for understanding our current state. We are doing our best to make sure the keychains be finished and delivered to you all.
For those of you asking about the production order as well as the survey, we wouldn't feel comfortable sending out surveys without making sure that the current manufacturer could handle our design and production. Until we sign a contract (which is coming up soon), we wouldn't want to send out surveys. What do you all think? If a lot of you just want the surveys, please comment below.
